Galinda

Galinda is a character in author Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. Galinda also appears in the Broadway musical Wicked which is based on Maguire's novel. She is based on the character Glinda from the classic L. Frank Baum book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz. During the course of both the novel and the musical, Galinda changes her name to the more familiar "Glinda". In the musical, the character was first played by Kristin Chenoweth.
