Further Mathematics

Further Mathematics is the title given by examination boards to an extended mathematics course studied at AS-Level and A-Level in the UK. It is studied in addition to the standard mathematics A-Level course.

Background

A qualification in Further Mathematics involves studying both pure and applied modules. Whilst the pure modules (formerly known as P4-P6, now known as FP1-FP3) are of a higher standard than those in the standard course, the applied modules need not be.

The subject is often studied at by potential Oxbridge candidates for subjects such as Physics, Mathematics and Engineering, as it is considered only suitable for high calibre students and covers many topic referred to during interviews and entrance tests.
