Fundao, ES, Brazil

Fundão is the name of a municipality and its capital in Espírito Santo, south eastern Brazil.

History

This municipality was created on the 2nd of January 1759 and installed officially on the 15th of June 1760. The municipality was created from part of Nova Almeida Municipality, which today is no longer a municiplaity but a town (Vila in Portuguese), of Serra municipality.

Location

Situated about 40km from the state capital Vitória. Bordering municipalities include: Aracruz and Ibiraçú (N), Santa Teresa and Santa Leopoldina (W), Serra (S) and the Atlantic Ocean (E).
