Funda is a popular Indian English slang word which originated from the Indian college scene. It's etymology is simply the shortening of the word fundamental.

Usage

If you are struggling with a math problem and if someone tells you "Get your fundas right", it means that you have to get your basics in the subject right. In this case, it might mean getting an equation right.

If someone says "He has got good fundas", they mean that the person is good at what he is doing.

It could also mean concept as in "What is the funda behind relativity?".

The word has evolved to include other connotations like technique as in "Shankar, you are always surrounded by hot chicks. How do you manage it? Tell me, what's the funda?"

The word is now so commonplace that it is not uncommon to find it mainstream Indian TV or ads.

Fundu

Fundu (also Fundoo) is derived from Funda. It means a very brilliant or intelligent person.
