Fruit of the Loom

Fruit of the Loom is a major brand of clothing, particularly underwear.

The brand was long highly advertised. (Much of its athletic outerwear was sold under the "Pro Player" label.) Until the 1990s, much of the manufacturing was done in the United States. The company was based in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and several of the factories were in that state. Poorly managed and unable to compete with many competitors who sold primarily imported products, the company defaulted on its long-term debt and went bankrupt in 2000, only to be bought from bankruptcy by Berkshire Hathaway Corporation, controlled by legendary investor Warren Buffett, who wanted the valuable brand.

The company also controls another long-known underwear brand, B.V.D. (Bradley, Voorhies, and Day).
