Fricktal

The Fricktal ("Frick Valley") is the northwest finger extending from Canton Aargau. It is situated between the river Rhine and the Jura. It contains the districts of Laufenburg and Rheinfelden.

Fricktal was originally part of Aargau before Aargau was divided in 1415. As one of the original Hapsburg possessions, Fricktal was included in the Vorderösterreich ("Further Austria"). In 1469, Archduke Sigmund of Habsburg sold Fricktal to Duke Charles the Bold of Burgundy.

In the early 1700's, Berne attempted to purchase Fricktal from the Emperor. From 1797 to 1802, Fricktal was occupied by France. Fricktal was briefly a canton during 1802–1803. On 9 Mar 1803, Fricktal was integrated back into Aargau.

Fricktal is an important location for pharmaceutical, wine, and cherry production.
