Foucault Tribunal on the State of Psychiatry
The 1998 Focuault Tribunal on the State of Psychiatry, which took place in Berlin in the "Volksbuehne Theatre" is well documented on the Internet. The homepage of the Tribunal is: http://www.foucault.de There is also a streaming video of the event: http://www.foucault.de/ft_video_stream.htm
The Tribunal was a pivotal point in the history of the critique of psychiatry, because in it those who saw themselves as victims of the psychiatric violence took the initiative to bring to justice what they alleged was a "cruel and inhuman system," coercive psychiatry, taking as a standard for a verdict the "United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights".
The ongoing influence of the Tribunal is reflecterd in the decision to choose the date of the verdict, the 2nd of May, as the annual international date for a Rememberence and Resistance Day, documented on this page: http://www.freedom-of-thought.de/may2
