Flying Scotsman (train)

This article is about the passenger service the "Flying Scotsman". For the LNER locomotive, see LNER Class A3 4472 Flying Scotsman.

The Flying Scotsman is a named passenger service operating in the United Kingdom. The 10 a.m. departure from London Kings Cross station to Edinburgh Waverley station (the down service), its compatriot from Edinburgh to London (the up service), have traditionally been known by this name since June 1862. In 1862, the journey time was 10½ hours. This compares to just under 4½ hours nowadays.

The "Flying Scotsman" name is still used today, by the current East Coast Main Line operator GNER.
