Flexible organic light-emitting diode

A flexible organic light-emitting diode (FOLED) is a term used for a flexible OLED.

While OLEDs might commonly be applied to sturdy panels, such as glass, a FOLED is the same thing built on a flexible substrate. Sample substrates are plastic sheets and aluminum or stainless steel foils. Plastic substrates can be transparent, so bottom-emitting OLEDs can be made, whereas metal substrates require top-emittiong OLEDs. The metal substrates do withstand higher temperatures, so amorphous silicon Thin-film transistors can be fabricated under the OLED to make an active matrix OLED display.
