Flag of Poland

Flag of Poland, proportions 5:8
Civil and State ensign of Poland, proportions 5:8

The Civil Flag of Poland has been used since the early 20th century. The Civil and State Ensign (with limited use) is shown with the Coat of Arms of Poland in the center of the white half of the flag. The War Ensign is like the latter but adds a swallow-tail to reach proportions of 10:21.

History

On november 7, 1831 during the November Uprising, the Sejm decided that national colours of Poland will be those of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Coat of Arms, i.e. white and red.

In August 1, 1919, the Sejm of again independent Poland created the flag of Poland at its current shape.

Polish Flag Day has been celebrated on May 2 since 2004. It is not, however, a public holiday.
