Filinto Muller

Filinto Müller was a military-associated Brazilian politician, and President of the Senate for the state of Mato Grosso and Chief of Distrito Federal Police during the government of Getúlio Vargas (1937–1942).

Filinto Strübing Müller was born in Cuiabá, Brazil. He was the founder of the Democratic Social Party (PSD), and was senator for Mato Grosso four times. Later, he was one of the founders of the National Renewal Alliance (ARENA), of which he became President in 1972, and remained a leader in Juscelino Kubitschek's government and President of the National Congress.

He died in an airplane crash while in office. After his death he was honored as a national hero, resulting in the arrest and deportation of Olga Benário, an alleged communist terrorist who had entered Brazil secretly to kill the president and to foment revolution in the country. Müller was also responsible for impeding a fascist movement in Brazil called Integralismo. Filinto has since been honored publicly by several officials and intellectuals, among them Juscelino Kubitschek and Ulisses Guimarães.
