This is a list of fictional sports teams, athletics groups that have been identified by name in works of fiction but do not really exist as such.

Baseball teams

• New York Empires – major league team, Clubhouse
• New York Knights – major league team, The Natural
• Salem Boulevardiers – minor league team, The Simpsons
• San Francisco Saints – major league team, Monk
• Shelbyville Shelbyvillians  – minor league team, The Simpsons
• Springfield Isotopes – minor league team, The Simpsons
  • The Albuquerque Isotopes, a real minor-league team, were named after this team.

Blernsball teams

Blernsball is the version of baseball in the year 3000 in the show Futurama

• The Boston Poindexters
• The Mars Greenskins
• The New New York Mets
• The New New York Yankees
• The Pituitary Giants
• The Swedish Meatballs

Basketball teams

• Hickory High School Huskers (Hickory, Indiana) – the featured team in Hoosiers
• Pittsburgh Pisces – The Fish Who Saved Pittsburgh

Ice hockey teams

• Dragons- NHL team, Trois-Rivieres, Canada, Lance et compte
• Le National- NHL team, Quebec City, Canada, Lance et compte
• The Mighty Ducks – a fictional team that led to the creation of a real team, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
• The Mighty Pigs – Peewee league team, "Lisa on Ice" episode of The Simpsons
• Charlestown Chiefs (Slap Shot)
  • A real minor-league hockey team in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where much of the movie was shot, is named the Johnstown Chiefs in honor of the fictional Chiefs and the city's involvement in the movie.
• Hamilton Steelheads (Power Play)
• The Kwik-E-Mart Gougers – Peewee league team, "Lisa on Ice" episode of The Simpsons

American Football teams

• Adams College Atoms – Revenge of the Nerds movies
• London Jets – Red Dwarf (Zero-G Football)
• Miami Sharks, Dallas Knights, and California Crusaders – Any Given Sunday
• Minnesota State Screaming Eagles – sitcom Coach
  • There is a real Minnesota State University, with campuses bearing that name in Mankato and Moorhead, but neither adopted the "Minnesota State" name until after the series ended. Sports teams at the real Minnesota State campuses are respectively Mavericks and Dragons.
• North Dallas Bulls – in the 1979 film North Dallas Forty
• Orlando Breakers – sitcom Coach
• Texas State Armadillos – Necessary Roughness
  • There is a real Texas State University, but it did not assume the name until well after the movie came out; its sports teams are known as Bobcats.
• Zuccinni Warriors, in the Gordon Korman novel of that name.

• Hounslow Harriers – Women's team, Bend It Like Beckham
• Melchester Rovers – Roy of the Rovers
• Naboombu Dirty Yellows and True Blues – Bedknobs and Broomsticks
