Compania de Aviacion Faucett

Compania de Aviacion Faucett was a Peruvian airline.

Elmer J. Faucett with a group of Peruvian business men joined to found in 1928 the first commercial airline in Peru and one of the oldest in Latin America. Flights were made from Lima to Talara to the north, and Arequipa to the south with Stinson Detroiter F-19. Faucett merged with Aerovias del Peru in 1938. Following world war two Faucett re-equipped with DC-3 and DC-4 transports. By 1960 the Douglas DC-6 had been put into service too.

The jet age started in 1968 with the addition to the fleet of Boeing 727's. In 1971 the airline purchased BAC One-Eleven jets. Douglas' DC-8-62 jets flew to Miami as the only international service that the airline operated. Cargo work has been taken on more as the fleet ages. The biggest shareholder of the airline was Aeronaves del Peru, a cargo-only carrier.

On March 1, 1996, Faucett Flight 251, a Boeing 737 (which was leased from American Airlines) crashed in the mountains near Arequipa's airport, killing all 117 passengers and 6 crew aboard.

The airline was declared bankrupt and ceased operations on November 15, 1999.
