Primary Puppet Characters

Many of the puppet characters were designed by Jim Henson himself.

Secondary Puppet Characters

  • The Furry Arms: Propietors Natasha, Humphrey and Ingrid, bell-hop Benny Rabbit
  • Monster's Clubhouse: Googel, Narf, Mel and Phoebe
  • Farley (picture) is a young, green-skinned boy with red hair who wears a yellow shirt. Farley was played by Jerry Nelson for a period after 1970 (to 19??) and in 1998.
  • Forgetful Jones, Buster the Horse, Rodeo Rosie
  • Herbert Birdsfoot appeared on the show from 1970 to 1973 replacing Kermit the Frog as the Cookie Monster's and Grover's instructor in the alphabet, counting and opposites. Since he never gained much popularity in that role he soon disappeared giving Kermit back that role. Herbert was also a friend of Ernie and Bert, appearing in a number of sketches with the two of them. Herbert was performed by Jerry Nelson.
  • Herry Monster is a big, unibrowed, furry light-blue monster who doesn't know his own strength. In books he is always illustrated as wearing pants with vertical stripes. Herry appeared on the show from 1970 to 2003; in 2004 he appeared in only the debut episode for Season 35 (episode 4057). Herry's puppeteer is Jerry Nelson.
  • Twiddlebugs The Twiddlebugs live outside of Ernie and Bert's window in a flowerbox. They are Anything Muppets which are placed among supersized props to make them look tiny.
