Fannie Flagg

Fannie Flagg (born 21 September 1944 in Birmingham, Alabama) is an American author and actress.

Her acting credits include the Broadway production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, the movies Five Easy Pieces, Stay Hungry, Grease, and Crazy in Alabama, as well as minor roles in various televison shows. She was also a popular celebrity guest on game shows like the Match Game.

Since the early 1980s she has focused more on writing, producing such bestselling novels as Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man and Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. She wrote the screenplay to Fried Green Tomatoes, the movie based on the latter book, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award.

She was married to Dick Sargent for a while, apparently in an attempt to conceal from the Press the fact that she is a lesbian and he was gay.
