Escape to victory
Escape to Victory is the 1981 film starring Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone about Prisoners of War who were in a Nazi war camp. The film received great attention as it also starred footballing superstars such as Bobby Moore and Pele.
Football had played an integral part of the film as the only way the P.O.W's could leave the Nazi camp was by beating the Nazis in a match. Despite the match officials being heavily biased towards the Nazis, a victory was achieved after great performances from Pele and John Wark. Sylvester Stallone who played in the goalkeeping position made some super saves despite only having one arm, including a last minute reaction save to deny the Nazis the chance of equalising.
The film was based on the story of a group of Ukrainian nationals playing under the name of Dynamo Kyiv, who defeated Nazi soldiers whilst Ukraine was occupied by Nazi troops in WW2. As a result of their victory the Ukranians were unfortunately killed.
