Venedikt Erofeev

(Redirected from Erofeev)

Venedikt Erofeev (Венедикт Ерофеев), 1938–1990, was a Russian writer, best known for his 1969 poem in prose Moscow-Petushki (translated to English as Moscow to the End of the Line). He died of throat cancer on May 11, 1990.

Moscow-Petushki

This book details the 125 km train trip from Moscow to Petushki by narrator Venya, a well-read alcoholic who becomes increasingly inebriated as he approaches his destination. Due to the satirical portrayal of Soviet society in the book, it did not get published in Erofeevs native country until the perestroika.
