Ergo Shifting

Ergo Shifting is the shifting component design by the Campagnolo company for road bicycles; also referred to as Ergopower or Ergolevers. An alternative to Shimano's STI dual control levers, the Ergopower shifters incorporate a shifting lever behind the brake lever to shift to a larger cog, and a small button on the insides of the right and left brake hoods that is pressed down in order to shift to a smaller cog.

The Ergo system allows multi-cog shifting in both directions. In fact, the right-hand side shifter can move the rear derailleur from the largest cog to the smallest cog in one stroke. Shimano's system can only move to one smaller cog at a time. Other advantages are that both sets of cables are routed under the handlebar tape, and a much simpler and sleeker design providing better crashworthiness and the possibility of overhaul – STI levers are virtually impossible to reassemble once dismantled, and are relatively vulnerable to crash damage.
