Hesperos

(Redirected from Eosphorus)
Henry Longfellow wrote an epic poem called The Wreck of the Hesperus. There is a large family of bats called Vesper bats in the family Vespertilionidae.

In Greek mythology, Hesperos (Greek Εσπερος (The Evening Star), Sometimes Latinized as Hesperus) was a son of Eos and Atlas or Astraios or Kephalos. His Roman equivalent was Vesper.

He is the personification of the evening star, the planet Venus.

His name is sometimes confused with the names Eosphoros (Heosphorus) ( Εωσφορος (bringer of dawn)), and Phosphoros ( Φώσφορος (bringer of light)) since they are all personifications of the same thing; Venus.

He was the father of Ceyx, Daedalion and Leukone. He is also said to be the father of the Hesperides.
