Envy (band)

"Envy" has become one of the foremost dominant hardcore/screamo bands in Japan, a status that has been forged through the past 11 years with a consistently evolving sound. The result is a passionately epic journey through brutal intensity and serene beauty, a dichotomy that many bands in the genre attempt, but none pull off with such grace. Densely layered guitars supported by a steady bass overwhelm in their energy where they do not release in their quiet, intricate elegence. Expert drumming further solidifies Envy's sound with patient, yet sometimes wonderfully skillful beats. The vocals follow a similar pattern of larynx-shredding power matched with softly-uttered lyric and are entirely in Japanese, however the desperation and emotion is easily communicated despite the language barrier. Translations into English have provided a deeply introspective, poetic literation which compliments the masterful musicianship. Evoking such a response to the raw emotion as to leave some crowd members in tears, Envy has been described as easily one of the best live bands around.
