Ennepe

The Ennepeis a river and a tributary of the Volme in Northern Sauerland.

Riverflow

The Ennepe begins in the Märkischer Kreis southeast of Halver at 425 m above sea level and continues to Ennepetalsperre (307 m above sea level.) the river flows through Gevelsberg and western Hagen-Haspe and then into Hagen (elevation: approx. 100 m above sea level) into the Volme. The river is partially canalized.

Flora and Fauna

The Ennepe has habitat for numerous animal and plant types. There are domestic animals including, fish and grey herons. There are neophyte plants along with the American Impatiens in Hagen.

Use

In the pre-industrial age, mills were built along the river and an iron plant which operated during the 19th and 20th century.
