En (Sailor Moon)
En (or "Ann") is an anime-only character appearing at the beginning of the second, or 'R' season of Sailor Moon. She first appears in Episode 47.
"En" is from the second syllable of alien, as her brother/partner in mayhem's name is "Ail".
Her "human" name is Ginga Seijuurou, using it to attend Juuban Junior High School, the school Usagi and most of the other "inner senshi" attend. Her family name, "Ginga", means "galaxy" — specifically the Milky Way; her given name, Natsumi, breaks down into "natsu" (summer) and "mi", a kanji meaning, according to Bunny's Tour, "beauty" (although a "natsumikan" is a bitter summer orange (mandarin); Chinese citron [1]). "-mi" is also a conventional female name ending.
The story of Ail and En was a filler written for the Sailor Moon anime series only when the first season and the first three volumes of the manga proved so popular.
En used Cardians, summoned from a deck of cards and dispatched by Ail's flute, to collect human energy to feed her "parent", the Doom Tree. She falls for Mamoru when she sees him with Usagi; at the same time, Alan is starting to have feelings for her conflicting with his own crush on Usagi.
In a climactic battle when they try to feed Usagi to the tree, Ann is struck down protecting Alan and the Doom Tree reveals the truth of their collective history. The three aliens leave the planet in peace after Sailor Moon heals the Tree with the power of love.
