Emma (manga)
Emma (jap: エマ) is a Japanese seinen manga by Kaoru Mori set in Victorian Britain, at the end of the 19th century. It is about a maid named Emma who falls in love with William, a member of the gentry. However, William's family disapproves of him associating with people of the lower classes.
Emma is drawn in a meticulous pen and ink style, and the artist is noted for the depth and accuracy of her research in creating the characters and settings. A companion reference called "Emma Victorian Guide" has been published to explain many of the unfamiliar and obscure historical references.
Emma is currently published in the monthly manga anthology Comic Beam, and has been running since January 2002. There are five tankobon volumes collecting the chapters. An anime version is being broadcast in Japan as of April 2005.
