Embodied energy

Embodied energy is the quantity of energy is necessary for the fabrication of a specific material. When measuring embodied energy, all energy inputs, from raw material extraction, to transport, manufacturing, assembly, installation and others are considered. Embodied energy as a concept seeks to measure the true energy cost of an item.
