Embrace Today
Straight Edge Hardcore band Embrace Today formed in the late 90's in the current Hardcore stronghold of Boston, Massachusetts. They begun life as a positive XXX youth crew band, focusing their lyrics on issues in the hardcore scene, from fights at shows and of course straight edge matters of being drug-free and proud of it. Their sound also resembled the positive youth crew bands of the 80's like Gorilla Biscuits. As the years went by, Embrace Today became increasingly heavier, harder, faster and more aggressive with each recording, and their lyrical subject matter also becoming much tougher, often losing the positivity that it had begun with. The middle point would be their E.P 'FxYxIxE', meaning 'Fuck You, I'm Edge'. The Evolution continued when in 2003, an entirely new band seemed to be born, with the release of 'Soldiers', which is arguably the most violent and brutal sounding hardcore record to ever exist, the majority of the record may even be described as the most violent music you may ever hear. The title is a reference to the theme of War running through the record, a war on drugs, alcohol, smoking and fucking(thinking with your genitals). A very Straight Edge record. The band is still very Straight Edge, with Anger and Hatred flowing through the record, and Straight Edge songs that seem to Kill you, like the song 'Run for your Life'. Embrace Today are the modern monsters of Mosh and Music brutality, brutally fast, angry and violent. Earthquake shattering breakdowns making bands like Hatebreed seem like Good Charlotte, and vocals and lyrics that seem like a punch in the face by Jet Li. All of which is helped by the large scale production that accompanies the band on the Record. Brutal and uncomprimising.
