Embrace (White Wolf)
In White Wolf, Inc.'s RPG games, the Embrace is the act of passing the curse of vampirism on. Although different bloodlines of vampire (for example the Baali) have special variations on the act, it always involves draining the target of blood, before allowing them to drink the blood of the embracing vampire (If one does not drain the target, one instead creates a ghoul). The embracing vampire is known as the sire, while the new vampire created is known as the childe (plural childer) of the embracing vampire. The childe is one generation higher than the sire; he or she is one link in the chain further away from the original vampire, Cain. The Camarilla leadership imposes strict control on the practice, both as a means of population control (Many vampires increases the number of Caitiff, Thin Bloods and other dangers to the Masquerade), and as a means to control the balance of power between the often feuding vampire clans. The Sabbat enforces no such practice, instead regularly creating large amounts of high-generation vampires to serve as cannon-fodder in combat.
