Eli El-Chantiry
Eli El-Chantiry is an Ottawa City Councilor. He was born in Lebanon in 1957 and moved to Canada with his family at age eighteen to escape the violence there. He became a prosperous businessman, owning the Lighthouse Restaurant in Constance Bay in West Carleton. A prominent local citizen he ran for city council in the 2003 Ottawa election to replace retiring Dwight Eastman. The election turned out to be extremely close between El-Chantiry and retired schoolteacher Adele Muldoon. In the end El-Chantiry defeated Muldoon by only twenty-nine votes.
