Ed Stewart
Born in Devon in 1941, Ed's broadcasting career began in Hong Kong on a local radio station, where he remained for 4 years.
In July 1965 Ed became a DJ on the offshore station, Radio London, becoming one of the first DJ's to join BBC Radio 1 in 1967, where he presented 'Happening Sunday' & 'What's New'. In 1968, Ed took over the Weekend's 'Junior Choice' show where he remained for 12 years. The show reached 17 million listeners. In addition to this, in 1971 he became a regular presenter of Top of the Pops & in 1972 also presented Radio 1's Sunday Sport show.
1980, saw Ed move to BBC Radio 2, presenting Family Favourites & the Weekday 2–4pm slot.
Commercial station Radio Mercury, tempted Ed into the commercial radio sector, where he remained for six years, before rejoining BBC Radio 2 in 1992 where he once again presented Weekday afternoons. This time, the show went out from 3.30–5pm, then in 1996 it went out from 3–5pm & in late 1998 went out from 2–5pm.
In the summer of 1999, Ed left the weekday afternoon slot, moving to his current Sunday Evening 5–7pm slot, where he features 'Where are you Now', listeners letters & great music.
In addition to his Sunday evening show on BBC Radio 2, in February 2005, Ed took over the Weekday afternoon show on Spectrum FM. Spectrum FM is an English Speaking Radio Station, which broadcasts to Spain. Dave Lee Travis presents a Saturday Morning show on the same station
