Dying Breed
Dying Breed, or "Hell's Desciples on Earth" as the band refers to itself, is a melodic death metal band from Greenbrier, Arkansas. They are well known on the local scene, partly due to their satanic subject matter but mostly because of the sheer volume of pigs blood used at each concert. City officials of neighboring towns Conway, Arkansas and Little Rock, Arkansas have vowed that the cult-like following of Dying Breed will not corrupt the morality of their townspeople.
Sinister Velenkas
The band was started by the Velenka brothers: Jimmesworth K. Velenka, on guitar; Davilmorth P. Velenka, on bass; and an honorary Velenka, their drummer, who goes by the enigmatic name of England. The original purpose of the band, as quoted by Jimmesworth, was to
Get lots of hos <sic>, kill them bitches, and finally have some beer and coke!
While their original goals are largely unmet, they have experienced a modicum of success on the local concert scene.
Inspirations
The Velenka family has long been involved in the underground music scene; 1920s Jazz musician Pat Benetar has this to say:
Uuuuuuuunnnngh!
However, according to England, the most prominent influences on the Velenkas' playing style has been the genre of Progressive Metal, in particular the bands Dream Theater and Rhapsody. As England says,
All of us, Jimmesworth especially, just love the endless soloing of Progressive Metal bands! Nothing gives us massive erections like sitting around listening to John Pettruci's guitar virtuosity. Jimmesworth models his playing after Dream Theater.
