Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori

A Roman poet named Horace wrote words that military leaders still quote today, and often still quote them in Latin: Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori. — "it is sweet and decorous to die for your country."

British war poet Wilfred Owen later wrote a poem titled Dulce Et Decorum Est in which the phrase was described as "the old lie".
