Duke of Queensberry

(Redirected from Duke of Dover)

The title Duke of Queensberry was created in the Peerage of Scotland in 1684. The Marquess of Queensberry held the title of Duke of Queensberry until the death of William Douglas, 5th Duke of Queensberry, when the marquessate was inherited by Robert Douglas, while the dukedom was inherited by Duke of Buccleuch. In 1708 the 2nd Duke was created Duke of Dover – and Marquess of Beverley as subsidiary title – in the Peerage of Great Britain, but this title became extinct upon the death of the 4th Duke in 1778.

The seat of the Dukes is at Drumlanrig Castle, built by the 1st Duke.
