Divan
This article should be split into multiple articles accessible from a disambiguation page.
- The Divan was the Imperial Council and government of the Ottoman Empire. It consisted of the viziers, the Grand Vizier and occasionally the Janissary Ağa.
- A divan is also a kind of couch. Joseph Stalin was known for only sleeping on divans.
- Divan (sometimes spelt Deewan) is also the word for either a collection of the works, or the whole body of work by an Urdu or Persian poet. Thus Deewaan-e-Mir, and so on. It is also worth mentioning that the most famous work with this word as its title is actually the fictional collection of poetry called Diwan-e Shams-e Tabriz-i by Rumi, ostensibly by Shams Tabraiz.
