Discovery of Puerto Rico

In November 19, 1493 Christopher Columbus set foot on an island in the Caribbean Sea which he called San Juan Bautista. The island was later renamed to Puerto Rico (or "rich port" in English). The island was already inhabited by the Taíno people.

The Discovery of Puerto Rico is an official public holiday celebrated in Puerto Rico every year.
