Direct experience is within and by consciousness, the only reality that is certain. Experience is otherwise by a conditioned being, through sense perception and cognitive function, of a universe that is constantly changing, hence always uncertain. The recognition that "all is consciousness" or "consciousness is the only reality" is the essential wisdom espoused by Advaita Vedanta. It is not that there is a direct experience of God but that non-dualism prevails – individuality merges into the One.
