Dhobitalao

Dhobitalao is a neighbourhood in the city of Mumbai, India. Its name means washerman's lake. It is located in the South Mumbai area. The lake was filled up about 120 years ago. A public library stands over the land that was the lake. Just off the current site, is the famous Metro Cinema.

In British times, dhobis used to wash the British soldiers clothes apart here. It was also used to wash public linen. Near the current location is a major junction in South Mumbai – a confluence of 6 roads.
