Developmental roster
In Major League Soccer, in addition to a senior roster, each team can can carry a developmental roster of up to ten (before 2005, six) players, whose contracts do not count against the salary cap. The roster includes Generation adidas (before 2005, Project-40) signees and other players (usually recent college graduates) 24 or younger, called developmental players. Except for the adidas Elite players, developmental players usually get paid a salary well below the MLS minimum, in the range of $10,000 per year. A player is graduated from the developmental roster at the team's discretion, but is usually the result of a player passing the age limit or becoming an important member of the squad.
Notable former developmental players players include Davy Arnaud, Nat Borchers, Alejandro Moreno, Jack Jewsbury and Troy Perkins.
