History

Beginning of the 1950er years gave the members to the pool of broadcasting corporations north Germans the broadcast (NDR) the order to produce and radiate on long wave a country wide radio broadcasting program, after the GDR could take a long wave transmitter Deutschlandsender in enterprise. After lengthy negotiations the NWDR could radiate 1953 first attempt transmissions. Three years later (1956) the NDR existing in the meantime could then the rule enterprise with "German long wave transmitters" of designated program take up. For the program thus the respective director of the NDR was responsible. It is remarkable that the "German long wave transmitter" its program for range-technical reasons in the mode of operation To compatible single-sideband modulation ausstahlte. In the year 1960 by Federal law the independent Federal Institution of the public right (broadcasting corporation) was created "Deutschlandfunk" (DLF) with seat in Cologne. Thus the order of the pool of broadcasting corporations expired to the NDR to operate the "German long wave". The long wave was handed over to the new transmitter "Deutschlandfunk", which started on 1 January 1962 with the radiant emittance of a German-language radio broadcasting program. Later also fremdsprachige transmissions were produced, which were radiated in the evening hours over long wave and medium wave into far parts of Europe. Target group of the programs were above all listener inside and listeners of the GDR and Eastern Europe. The Deutschlandfunk was thus the counterpart to the voice of the GDR. The DLF was the first German radiosender, which radiated regularly a traffic radio; with it for the famous "traffic bleeper" (amtlich:Hinz-thriller) develops. After the combination of the two German states 1990 the DLF had its original order to supply the GDR and Eastern Europe with information from West Germany lost. Nevertheless one wanted to offer also further radio broadcasting programs for completely Germany. Therefore the 16 Lands of the Federal Republic effective 1 January 1994 agreed the body of the public right Germany radio by convention under the common roof of the pool of broadcasting corporations and Second Channel of German Television to establish. In this new body the past Federal Institution of the public right "Deutschlandfunk" came up. The fremdsprachigen programs of the DLF had been already handed over to the German wave to 1 June 1993. After the new had to radiate body Germany radio (until March 2005 "Germany radio" written) due to the state contract of in the future two radio broadcasting programs, the name remained "Deutschlandfunk" for the program which can be produced from Cologne. The DLF does not have its own director since 1994 however no more.
