Derwent Valley Light Railway
The Derwent Valley Light Railway is a heritage railway link based at Murton to the east of the city of York.
Based on the route originally linking Layerthorpe, York and Cliff Common near Selby the line was reduced after the Beeching period to Dunnington, before final closure. In the mid-1980s the farm museum at Murton, through whose grounds the trackbed ran, a group of enthusiasts organised the purchase of approx 0.75 miles of track from the government and a new station was constructed using the original station buildings from Wheldrake down the line.
The line runs a mixture of 6 diesel and 2 steam locomotives on Sundays and bank holidays.
