Derieg Method
The Derieg Method is a holistic approach used in tracking down the whereabouts of individuals, with a specific emphasis on locating disbarred lawyers. The method is mainly used by law students to obtain information on attorneys' whereabouts and contact information; however, it can also be used in tracking down individuals who may have information relevant to a case.
The method enumerates various search tools, internet resources, and other pools of information that can aid in locating an invididual. It emphasises a creative approach when using these resources, such as the use of name permutations, abbreviated names, nicknames, and other variations.
Additional guidelines are provided in locating people from a search subject's personal history. The method also outlines ways to avoid alienating or scaring off potential contacts, and for evaluating the contact's bias.
As with any heuristic, the Derieg Method is not fullproof, however it provides for a quick-start reference that can be effectively utilized before requiring the use of paid search/locator services.
