Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 2005
| Derbyshire Phantoms Ground |
Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 2005 are playing their cricket in Division Two of both the County Championship and totesport League. They started the season favourites to finish plum bottom of the County Championship. Their first game would not have inspired their confidence, picking up only 3 points whilst being defeated by Worcestershire. Rain destroyed their first Sunday League fixture. They then went to the Parks to play the Oxford students – only to see the students take a confident first innings lead, although Jonathon Moss was able to score a century in the second innings. Derbyshire then went to Hove and lost a thriller in the Sunday League. Then they drew with Northamptonshire in the County Championship.
On 4 May they edged into the Second Round of the C&G Trophy by edging out Durham on the last ball with one wicket to spare. Next, they were comprehensively thrashed by Lancashire in the County Championship.
