Biography

Dekoy formed in October 2002. The promo-demo heartwerk was soon thereafter released to widespread critical acclaim. heartwerk received the number one slot on Isotank's ASLEEP BY DAWN "Wake-up Call: Albums" Debut Charts and was voted the "Best Demo Of 2003" by ElektronskiZvuk 95.2FM Radio Sjeverozapad in Croatia. The tracks were played worldwide in clubs, radio and Internet, despite the fact it was only a demo release made available to DJs, radio, and promoters, and was never made commercially available to the public.

On February 14th, 2004, Dekoy released their debut album, REDUX – heartwerk v2 – a 13-track digipak featuring guest vocals from Kristy Venrick (The Azoic) and operatic treatments from Lygia Travesty (Temple of Misery). REDUX – heartwerk v2 was released through the Dekoy label/hub – cemetery47. The disc rocketed up the DAC Charts as a DJ Bullet and has been featured on multiple compilations. The latest is the 5-disc set, State of Synthpop (25.4.05) – a joint effort between Nilaihah Records and A Different Drum. This is certainly an achievement considering the fact that Dekoy are utterly D-I-Y; on the forefront and helping to usher in the "new way" of quality output without label associations. All facets of concept and production (barring CD duplication and mastering) are carried out at the 605 PARK/cemetery47 studio space.

On a shoestring budget, Dekoy has relied solely on clever promotion, resourcefulness and sincerity to their audience. The 500 demo copies of heartwerk went fast due to the inherent quality of the release and the dogged tenacity of Dekoy's promotional style.

Despite budgetary constraints, extras were included with the REDUX release, including a limited edition postcard and vinyl sticker (the mechanical heart), as well as promotional flyers. A very small run of REDUX t-shirts was made available (less than 50 total). These shirts were gone as fast as they arrived.

Dekoy decided to make the entire contents of REDUX available as a free Internet audio stream via Live365.com, and their early adoption of Internet trends like MySpace.com and Digital Audio Downloads demonstrates that forward thinking is always at the forefront of their promotional style. In this day and age of ‘information piracy’, many bands and labels are very guarded about the content of their CDs, but realizing that there's nothing anybody can really do about it, Dekoy have embraced this avenue whole-heartedly. This ‘try before you buy’ notion creates a more honest, sincere, and respectful relationship between the band and potential listeners/fans/etc.

(25.5.05) Dekoy are currently working on their follow-up album, tentatively titled haunted which is expected by the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2005. According to d_b and BaZa, major things are happening, including a studio overhaul and a level of dedication that’s ramped up since their stellar demo and debut album. As with the first album, expect this one to continue in the same D-I-Y vein. Few bands can boast complete capability, as with most there seems to be some weak link that's addressed by an outside party. With Dekoy, this is simply not the case – from production to graphics to promotion and, soon, video production – Dekoy does it all.
