Dan O'Connor was one of the top 12 finalists in the 2004 series of Australian Idol, aired on Network Ten nationwide in Australia. He was eliminated from the show on 13 September 2004.

From May 2005, Dan O'Connor will appear in the mobile soap opera, Random Place. The series to be viewed via mobile phones provides a fly-on-the-wall view of the lives of five twenty-somethings sharing a house near Bondi Beach. The mobile soap opera format was pioneered in Holland and this is the first series to be released into Australia. Sydney Morning Herald 6 May 2005: Soaps slip into phones
