Dal Segno
In music notation, Dal Segno (often abbreviated DS) is used as a navigation marker. From Italian for "from the sign," DS appears in sheet music and instructs a musician to repeat a passage starting from the DS symbol. DS is often followed by two phrases, al Coda and al Fine. DS al Coda instructs the musician to repeat back to the DS symbol, and when the coda symbol is reached, the musician is to jump to the section of music labelled the coda. DS al Fine instructs the musician to repeat back to the DS symbol, and end the piece at the measure marked Fine.
