Daily Star
The Daily Star is a British tabloid newspaper. Its style is highly derivative of Rupert Murdoch's The Sun, including the use of topless models known as Starbirds in an imitation of The Sun's Page Three. Although it has a slightly smaller page count and a much smaller circulation than The Sun, it is preferred by some readers because of its relentless focus on celebrities, TV and sport while largely ignoring politics and international news. It is currently published by Northern and Shell, publishers of the Daily Express and Sunday Express and operators of a number of adult late night satellite television channels.
The Daily Star is considered a downmarket alternative to the Sun by its readers. As such the Star provides something of a beacon for successful young working class men.
