Cryoprecipitate

Cryoprecipitate is a blood product manufactured by warming frozen plasma. Each 15ml unit contains about 100u of factor VIII, 250mg of fibrinogen, and other clotting factors including IX, VIIa and von Willebrand's factor.

Indications for giving cryroprecipitate include:

• Haemophilia
• von Willebrands's disease
• hypofibrinogenaemia (low fibrinogen levels)
• bleeding from excessive anticoagulation
• massive haemorrhage
• disseminated intravascular coagulation
