Crusader Kings
Crusader Kings is a term referring to several medieval European kings who took part in the Crusades, most notably the Third Crusade (which for this reason is sometimes called the "King's Crusade").

The game is mainly known for its emphasis on the creation of a dynasty, less on the creation of an empire. Also the player is (when the pope asks) forced to go on crusade.
Savegames can be converted and played further into Europa Universalis II.
