Craftsman (tools)

Craftsman is a line of tools, mainly hand tools and power tools, sold by Sears. It has been one of Sears' best-known brand names for decades.

Up until 1994, Craftsman brand was made by Stanley. The tools came down the same assembly lines and went through the same forging processes. After 1994, Danaher won the contract. Danaher is the parent company of Matco brand tools, and manufactures tools under other brands as well.

Many Craftsman power tools were previously built by Emerson (now manufacturing some tools of the Ridgid brand, sold by Home Depot) and are currently a mix of tools built by Orion, Ryobi, Skil and others. Often on the shelves at Sears the Craftsman branded tool will be sitting next to an identical tool with identical features, often this Craftsman branded tool was manufactured for Sears by the brand name company's manufacturing centers.

The Craftsman Truck Series, a NASCAR junior league racing series in which pickup trucks are raced, is sponsored by Sears through the Craftsman brand.
