Courmayeur

Courmayeur is an Italian ski resort town at the foot of Mont Blanc, the tallest mountain in Europe. Mont Blanc is part of the Alps Mountains that occupy parts of France, Italy, and Switzerland. It is in the section of the Alps known as the Pennine Alps.

[General Location]

Courmayeur is 93 miles/150 km northwest of Turin, Italy, in the farthest northwest corner of the country. Its picturesque mountain scenery and healthy mountain air make it an attractive destination for Europeans, especially Italians. It is popular not only in the winter for skiing, but also in the summer for hiking and relaxing.

Surrounding Area

This region, the Valle d'Aosta of Italy, is noted for its breath-taking scenery, its castles, churches, and rich history dating back to the Roman Empire. Courmayeur is 137 miles/220 km from Milano, easily accessible by bus, train or car.

Dolonne, a sister-city of Courmayeur, holds many residential areas and hotels, as well as a large sporting center. It is connected to Courmayeur by a bridge that stands over a tributary flowing from Mont Blanc.

Another mountain that surrounds Courmayeur within the Valle d'Aosta is Mont Chetif. It is a hiker friendly mountain with a statue of the Virgin Mary at the summit which overlooks the town and can be seen practically from anywhere.
