Cordovan shoe leather is regarded as the most luxurious and durable leather available. The cost of this leather is high due to its limited supply. Made from the rump of a horse, only two or three pair of shoes can be made from a single hide. With proper care, a well made pair of cordovan shoes can last a lifetime, with improving patina and luster throughout its life.

Cordovan is the adjectival form of the word Cordoba meaning 'of or relating to Cordoba.'
