In the context of computers and database management, commit refers to the idea of making permanent a set of tentative changes, such as at the end of a transaction. To commit (changes) is to make tentative changes permanent. A commit is the act of committing.

In terms of transactions, the opposite of commit to discard the tentative changes of a transaction, a rollback
